One of eight children of George and Mary Pink, William was a soldier with one of the British Regiments from a young age. He was a Private with the 70th Regiment and married Harriet Read in 1847 at St Saviour's Cathedral, London, Surrey, England. They had two children together and it was while he was stationed in India in 1852 that he suddenly died, perhaps of disease, on the 3rd December. William was aged just 36. He was buried the following day at Allahabad.
